An official representative of Iran’s Jewish community asked members to unfollow all Israeli-related social media pages and delete past interactions to avoid “judicial or security consequences,” according to a document obtained by IranWire.
The letter, dated Saturday and bearing an official number, stamp, and signature, urged Iranian Jews to avoid any engagement with pages including “Israel in Persian” and “Israel Defense Forces in Persian.”
The writer asked community members to immediately delete what the letter called “unusual, sensitive, or misinterpretable comments or likes on social media.”
The representative wrote that comments and likes on content by some members of Iran’s Jewish community caused “misunderstandings” with intelligence agencies, leading to summonses.
The writer claimed to have prevented serious problems for these individuals through meetings with relevant officials.
The request comes amid increased media and political pressure on Iran’s Jewish community in recent months over their use of religious symbols and rituals.
A source who provided the document to IranWire said the letter demonstrates security agencies’ control over Iran’s Jewish community and represents an effort to sever ties between Iranian Jews and the Jewish diaspora.
Iran’s Jewish community numbers about 8,500 people, making it the largest Jewish population in the Middle East outside Israel.
The community has faced pressure from authorities despite constitutional recognition as a religious minority.
Iranian authorities closely monitor social media activity and have prosecuted citizens for online posts deemed supportive of Israel.
