Tehran was hit by winds of up to 100km per hour today, killing four people and injuring a further 50. Falling trees claimed the lives of three people, while a fourth fell from a five-story building. Dozens of people were hit by building materials, branches from fallen trees and other debris, and eight were injured in a traffic accident involving 20 cars on the Tehran-Qom highway. The Modarres highway was also blocked.
Tehran’s Mehrabaad airport was also affected and there were reports of four planes colliding. There were no reported injuries and the planes were not carrying passengers at the time of the collision.
More bad weather is on the way, with the forecast predicting continued high winds for Tuesday and Wednesday.
