IranWire Readers Hopeful For Nuclear Deal

IranWire Readers Hopeful For Nuclear Deal

Three quarters of IranWire’s Persian-speaking readers have expressed their hope that Iran will reach a nuclear agreement by the end of March, revealed an IranWire poll asking their opinions on the matter.

In a survey published on the website on March 10, IranWire asked readers, “Do you think that Iran and the group of 5+1 countries can reach an agreement by the end of the March?” and nearly half, 42.8 percent, said they were certain one would be reached on the basis that a settlement was in the best interests of “both sides.”

The second largest group of respondents, totaling 33.8 percent of votes, said they hoped an agreement would be reached, as sanctions acted as an on-going paralysis on the Iranian economy. This, it can be concluded, suggests that more than 75 percent of Persian-speaking IranWire readers are following negotiations in the hope that an accord will be struck by politicians.

However there were a number of voters, some 16.4 percent of the votes, that said that finalizing a deal was not crucial because negotiations could continue if a deal was not reached on this occasion, suggesting they too are optimistic that a resolution will be agreed at some point, if not by the end of the month.

This left just seven percent of respondents answering that a nuclear deal would not be agreed at all because the Iranian government will refuse to accept a treaty that is “imposed upon them.”

These results show that the majority of Persian-speaking readers who took part in the poll maintain, despite previous nuclear deal delays, a positive outlook on the negotiations and follow their developments with high hopes and interest.

English IranWire

The results for the same survey on the English-language IranWire site differed slightly, with the number of people taking part in the poll being considerably lower. However optimism remained high, with 66 percent of voters remaining positive that a nuclear deal was achievable by the end of March.

Equally, just over a quarter of respondents — 26.7 percent — expressed their certainty than an agreement would be signed under the premise that it was in the best interests of both Iran and the 5+1 countries [the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, France, plus Germany]. By adding these two results together, the poll finds that more than 66 percent of English IranWire readers are following negotiations with positive expectations and with the belief that a deal will be agreed by the end of the month.

The second most popular response — that an agreement would be reached because “sanctions are crippling the Iranian economy” — secured a significant 40 percent of votes. While just 13.3 percent of English readers answered that coming to an agreement was not crucial because negotiations would be on-going until an accord was reached — suggesting this group is also optimistic that there will be an agreement at some point, if not by the end of the month.

However a minority of respondents, a fifth of readers, said there would be no nuclear deal because Iran would refuse to accept a treaty that was forced upon them.

IranWire readers, both Persian and English-speaking, have highlighted via the survey the extent of optimism that a nuclear deal is achievable, whether by the end of March or in due course, and that many Iranians and people around the world are following nuclear developments with high anticipation. However, time will tell if the instincts of IranWire readers’ are spot on, or whether they are overly positive as to the feasibility of a nuclear deal in the near future.
