Iran Gas Price Protests Enter Third Day

OstanWire – Mass protests against the Iranian’s government’s sudden threefold gas price hike entered their third day on Sunday.

Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Kermanshah and Shiraz are among the cities where protests have erupted. Images of the protests posted to social media sites also showed police and special forces mobilized to suppress the demonstrations.

Government officials have said they intend to press ahead with the new gas prices. Authorities also blocked internet access around the country for prolonged periods to stop news of the protests spreading across Iran and to international media.

Reports so far suggest that at least 10 people were killed in several cities and more than 1,000 people arrested.

A hundred banks, 57 stores and at least two religious seminaries were also damaged in attacks during the protests.
