Political Prisoner Attempts Suicide in Tehran’s Evin Prison

A political prisoner held in Tehran’s Evin Prison attempted suicide on Tuesday.

Mahnaz Tarah was briefly transferred to Loghman Hospital before being returned to Evin Prison.

Tarah was arrested on November 13, 2023, in Tehran and initially held in Ward 209 of Evin Prison, which is managed by the Ministry of Intelligence.

She was later moved to the prison’s general ward on November 23.

In January, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Tarah to a total of four years and four months in prison on charges of "assembly and collusion to act against national security" and "propaganda against the Islamic Republic."

 Following an appeal, her sentence was reduced to two years and nine months.
