Hamraz Sadeghi, a 40-year-old resident of Tehran and opponent of Iran's compulsory hijab for women, was arrested on Saturday. She was transferred to the notorious Evin Prison to begin serving a one-year sentence.
Sadeghi was convicted of "propaganda activity against the Islamic Republic" for her social media activism.
This charge stems from her involvement in the "Girls of Enghelab Street" movement, a campaign that has seen women publicly removing their hijabs in protest of Iran's strict dress codes for women.
Sadeghi's recent arrest is not her first encounter with Iranian authorities.
In March 2018, she was violently arrested by security forces for her participation in the anti-hijab movement. She was later released on bail.
A branch of Tehran's Islamic Revolutionary Court handed down the one-year prison sentence to her.
