Heavy rains have pounded southern Khuzestan province since March 23, leading to severe flooding of most roads in Ahvaz.

The Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Khuzestan, valid until March 26, and warned of continued rainfall.

Mohammad Sabzezari, Director General of Khuzestan Meteorology, said, "According to forecast models, the current weather system will bring showers and thunderstorms to xeastern, northeastern, southeastern, and some central areas of the province until tonight. Rainfall intensity will be lower in other parts of Khuzestan."

Due to the flooding, the Khuzestan Governorate, in coordination with the Khuzestan Crisis Prevention, Coordination, and Operations Command, has ordered the closure of government offices in Ahvaz and Karun on Monday, except essential services and banks.

Mohammad Khanchi, spokesperson for the Khuzestan Crisis Management, informed, "Volunteer groups are working to clear floodwaters caused by the past 48 hours of rain across Khuzestan."

"Their efforts are focused on draining waterlogged areas. Additionally, relief efforts are underway, with support from volunteer groups, Basij and NGOs," he added.

However, concerns remain, as some residents criticize the lack of response from government agencies and service organizations to address the flooding in the Ahvaz metropolis.

The situation created transportation difficulties for residents, particularly during the sixth day of the Nowruz holiday.
