Nearly 10,000 Iranian workers lost their lives or were injured over the past year, a human rights organization reported.

Simultaneous with International Labor Day, the HRANA Human Rights Organization reported that at least 9,879 workers lost their lives or sustained injuries over the past year in Iran.

Within this period, 8,199 workers were reported injured in workplace mishaps, as documented by media outlets or advocacy organizations.

This number contrasts with the figures provided by official sources. While national and provincial authorities acknowledged 7,517 injuries in eight reports or statements, an additional 682 incidents were reported by civil or labor organizations.

The gravity of these statistics is compounded by the opacity surrounding information dissemination by responsible institutions, which results in underreporting work-related incidents in the media.

During the same timeframe, at least 1,680 workers lost their lives due to workplace accidents.

Although official sources accounted for 1,514 fatalities in ten reports, independent institutions uncovered an additional 166 cases not reflected in official statements.

Iran's dismal ranking of 102nd globally in terms of work safety compliance underscores the urgent need for systemic reforms.
