Torrential rains lashed the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, triggering flash floods that wreaked havoc across the city.

At least seven people are confirmed dead and 12 others remain missing.

The floodwaters inundated numerous streets, bringing traffic to a standstill and trapping some vehicles in the deluge.

The CEO of Mashhad Fire Organization reported two fatalities near Revolution Bridge, while two other died close to Seyedi Boulevard.

Search and rescue efforts are ongoing for the missing individuals.

The impact of the floods extended beyond Mashhad.

Reports indicate damage to a city and eight villages across the Razavi Khorasan province.

Further, heavy rainfall caused the Fariman Dam in southern Razavi Khorasan to overflow, putting it in a critical condition.

Authorities have issued a travel warning, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel in Mashhad and surrounding flood-affected areas.

Tourist attractions, parks, and gardens within Mashhad have also been closed until further notice.

The full extent of the damage in the affected areas remains unclear. However, initial reports suggest significant harm to agricultural land, transportation infrastructure, and essential utilities, including drinking water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications.

Both urban and rural residential areas have also sustained damage.
