Man Arrested by German Police for Sending Equipment to Blacklisted Firm

An Iranian-German man has been arrested on suspicion of violating European sanctions by exporting equipment to Iran that could be used in a nuclear or missile program.

German prosecutors announced on Tuesday that the citizen, named only as Alexander G, is accused of sending some 1.1 million euros’ worth of material to an Iranian company that is currently blacklisted in Europe.

The equipment is understood to include two spectrometers worth 166,000 euros sent in January 2020, followed by two more six months later.

Police also searched 11 locations, including apartments and offices in the states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia, linked to the suspect.

The German Attorney-General has emphasized that the suspect did not apply for an export license, which is required in these cases.
