These photographs by Mina Nabi portray the grief of the families of people who have died from coronavirus in Tabriz. It’s a common, shared grief in Iran, where hardly anyone has been untouched by the tragedies of the pandemic: according to official statistics, more than 115,000 people in Iran have lost their lives. Independent sources, however, estimate the death toll to be three times this figure.

Recently fears have heightened in Tabriz as the number of deaths is on the rise, and because health protocols are not being observed by everyone, including some people attending burial services in Tabriz’s Rahmat Cemetery.
