The Iranian government says Minister of Education Yusuf Nouri has resigned, amid widespread anger among teachers over the delayed payment of their March salaries.
Teachers across Iran have also been protesting against the implementation of a new ranking system that would establish their salaries.
The government cited no reasons when announcing Nouri’s resignation on April 3.
The move followed media reports suggesting that the minister would be dismissed.
President Ebrahim Raisi appointed Reza Murad Sahraei, a professor at Allameh Tabatabai University and president of Farhangian University, as Acting Minister of Education.
