Iranian Protester Killed in Clash with Security Forces

Iranian security forces have shot and killed a resident of the south-western city of Izeh who had been involved in last year’s nationwide protests, according to the Hengaw human rights organization.

Seyyed Mostafa Ahmadpour died during a clash with armed forces on July 20.

Government-affiliated media outlets confirmed Ahmadpour's death, describing him as one of the "instigators of the Izeh riots."

A nine-year-old boy and several other Izeh residents were killed when government forces opened fire on protesters in the city on November 16. Government officials have labeled the massacre as a "terrorist" act and attributed it to government opponents.

The Sobh Zagros website released pictures purportedly showing Ahmadpour’s dead body and reported that the clash also claimed the lives of two police officers.

Two people accompanying Ahmadpour were reportedly taken away by government forces during the confrontation. There was no immediate information about their whereabouts.

According to accounts circulating on social networks, Ahmadpour was an active participant in last year’s nationwide protests sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while in police custody.

His brother, Mohsen Ahmadpour, is being held in Shiban prison in Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan province. He is accused of "waging war against God” and “corruption on Earth."
