An Iranian female athlete has reportedly withdrawn from the Taekwondo Grand Prix in Taiyuan, China, due to the presence of two Israelis in the ongoing tournament.
According to the Tabnak news agency, Mobina Nematzadeh withdrew from the competition to avoid potential disqualification in case she faces Israeli opponents.
Iranian sports authorities refuse their athletes the right to compete against Israeli competitors and threaten those who come forward.
Until last month, Iran faced a four-year ban imposed by the International Judo Federation as punishment for refusing to let its athletes face opponents from Israel.
The measure came after former world champion Saeid Mollaei left the Iranian team in 2019, claiming he was ordered to lose matches to avoid facing Israelis.
