A 18-year-old Baluch boy reportedly died while in the custody of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to Amir Kabir Telegram channel, which covers news related to students, Sepehr Shirani was arrested by IRGC intelligence forces in the southeastern city of Zahedan on January 28 over his online activities.

It said that the teenager’s family was informed he had died three days after his arrest, on January 31.

Sources close to the family say the authorities have yet to explain the cause of his death.

Shirani's body remains in the possession of the IRGC.

Lack of transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding Shirani's death has sparked suspicion that the teenager might have been tortured by his jailers.

According to Amnesty International, the Islamic Republic’s intelligence and security forces has committed “horrific acts of torture, including beatings, flogging, electric shocks, rape and other sexual violence” against children arrested during and in the aftermath of nationwide protests in 2022-23.
