Iranian authorities say a military conscript and a police officer were killed in a shooting incident at a police station in Tehran province.
The incident occurred on February 1 when a conscript stationed at the Pakdasht 14 police station "accidentally" discharged his firearm, injuring a police officer, according to a statement issued by police.
The conscript then shot himself in what the statement described as an "emotional act.”
Despite receiving immediate medical attention, both the officer and the conscript succumbed to their wounds, police said.
On January 22, a military conscript opened fire on fellow soldiers in the southeastern city of Kerman, killing five of them, state media reported at the time.
The two incidents have reignited concerns about the mental health and well-being of conscripts in Iran, where military service of up to two years is mandatory for men aged 19 and above.
