Two prominent Iranian lawyers have called on authorities to investigate social media users who may have incited journalist Kianoosh Sanjari to suicide through online comments.
Lawyer Kambiz Norouzi cited Article 15B of Iran's internet crime law, which criminalizes incitement to suicide via electronic networks.
"This is a public offense and does not require a private plaintiff," Norouzi said.
He has urged criminal prosecution of users who posted provocative comments in response to Sanjari's final messages.
Lawyer Mohsen Borhani echoed these concerns, adding that digital platform users who incite suicide could face imprisonment or fines.
He urged the prosecutor's office to take immediate action.
These legal demands come after Sanjari’s death by suicide after he posted his intentions on X.
According to legal experts, some social media users responded to these posts with comments that may have violated the law.
