Minutes after reports emerged about the targeting of the South Pars Petrochemical complex in Assaluyeh, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed responsibility for the strike. He said the country’s military had been instructed to continue “attacks against Iranian infrastructure” with “full force.”
Katz described the operation as an economic strike, stating that the damage could amount to tens of billions of dollars.
However, before this statement, the Fars and Tasnim news agencies, both affiliated with the IRGC, had attributed the explosions to the United States, assuming the strikes were carried out by the U.S. Air Force.
Israel Katz said that Israeli forces had targeted two of Iran’s largest petrochemical facilities in a region that accounts for 85% of the country’s petrochemical exports.
