IRGC Closes the Strait of Hormuz; Two Vessels Targeted by Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters announced that the Strait of Hormuz is closed until further notice to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships, and that any vessel attempting to pass through the waterway will be targeted.

At the same time, Iranian domestic media, citing the IRGC Navy, reported that two vessels, which the organization said had "attempted illegal passage through the Strait of Hormuz," were struck.

According to these reports, the IRGC Navy stated: "Two violating ships that attempted illegal passage through the Strait of Hormuz were hit."

Iranian military officials have so far released no details about the type of vessels, the extent of damage, the identity of the crews, or the nationalities of the ships. It also remains unclear whether the vessels were commercial, oil tankers, or military.

The announcement of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the reports of two vessels being struck come as military tensions between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States have sharply escalated in recent days, with the Persian Gulf region on high security alert.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical energy chokepoints, with a significant share of oil and gas exports from Gulf countries passing through this waterway. Any disruption to shipping along this route could have far-reaching consequences for global energy markets and maritime trade.
