Amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, a high-level Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, June 10, to hold talks with Islamic Republic officials on “bilateral relations, regional developments, and the progress of diplomatic efforts to end the conflict between Iran and the United States.”
Iran’s state newspaper reported that the delegation arrived in Tehran at midday on Wednesday and is expected to discuss not only bilateral relations and regional issues but also the latest developments in the diplomatic process aimed at ending the war between Iran and the United States.
Agence France-Presse, citing an informed diplomat, reported that the Qatari negotiating team traveled to Tehran following consultations with American officials to meet Iranian counterparts and help narrow the remaining differences between the two sides. According to the source, the purpose of the visit is to help bridge the gaps in the ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian media have also confirmed the delegation’s arrival. The ISNA news agency announced that the members of the Qatari delegation had come to Tehran for “dialogue and exchange of views on bilateral relations and regional developments.”
The visit comes at a time when a new round of exchanges of fire between the two countries has begun following the downing of a U.S. military helicopter. Hours earlier, Donald Trump criticized the pace of negotiations, accused Iran of stalling, and said Tehran must now pay the price for the delay.
