he human rights media outlet HRANA reported that Reza Dalman, a master’s student in computer engineering at Sharif University of Technology, has been sentenced to expulsion and a four-year ban from studying at all universities in the country by the university’s disciplinary committee. The verdict has been forwarded to the Ministry of Science for implementation after being upheld by the appeals committee.
According to the HRANA report, Reza Dalman was arrested by security forces in March of last year and released upon posting bail approximately one month later. Prior to this, reports had been published stating that one of the reasons for his arrest was hanging a mouse doll from a tree on the university campus, an action carried out amid the protest atmosphere of that time, referencing a moniker that some protesters used for Ali Khamenei.
HRANA, quoting the Islamic Association of Students at Sharif University of Technology, wrote that the student’s suspension sentence was reduced from five years to four years at the appeals stage and, despite student protests, has been sent to the Ministry of Science for execution.
