Iranian Scholar Wins Stanford’s Highest Teaching Award

Abbas Milani, a scholar and professor at Stanford University, has been selected as one of the five recipients of the Walter J. Gores Award, Stanford University’s highest honor for excellence in teaching.

This award is bestowed upon professors, teaching staff, and students who have played an outstanding role in the education, mentorship, and academic development of students. In its introduction of Milani, Stanford recognized him as an inquisitive, brilliant professor endowed with vast cultural knowledge who encourages student participation and academic growth by fostering an open environment for dialogue.

One of the nomination citations also stated that Abbas Milani is “a professor in the truest sense of the word, an honest researcher, and an individual of rare integrity and humility” who has guided many of his students toward a clearer understanding of the issues.
