Navid Zarebin Irani, a well-known photographer from Khorasan, remains in a state of legal limbo in Mashhad’s Vakilabad Prison more than 90 days after his arrest.

According to information obtained by IranWire, Mr. Zarebin, a Baha’i citizen, remains unaware of the specific charges against him and has been denied access to a lawyer, a situation regarded as a clear violation of the principles of fair due process.

Navid Zarebin was arrested by security agents on January 1 at his private residence in Mashhad, in front of his young child. At the time of his arrest, all of his photography equipment was confiscated.

After an extended period of interrogation at the Mashhad Intelligence Department during the peak of the war, he was transferred to the quarantine ward of Vakilabad Prison. Despite the temporary release of a significant number of prisoners during the conflict, reports indicate that this Baha’i citizen has been denied the right to furlough or temporary release by order of the Intelligence Department.

A relative of Navid Zarebin Irani expressed deep concern, stating: “Navid’s family is worried about his physical and mental well-being, especially given that many other prisoners were released during the war.” According to this source, the prolonged separation from his family, particularly his young child, has taken a toll on his morale. Furthermore, he is reportedly suffering from physical ailments at a time when medical and sanitary facilities in the prison have reached a minimum.

According to the information received, Navid Zarebin’s temporary detention was renewed on April 15 after three months, without any clear explanation or response from the authorities. He has now entered his fourth month of detention.
