The Information Center of the Islamic Republic’s Law Enforcement Command said on Thursday, April 23, that nine more citizens had been arrested in connection with the killing of a security officer during the January protests in Mashhad.
According to the report, the arrests were made during a “joint operation” carried out by the Khorasan Razavi police and security agencies.
One of the detainees has been identified as the main suspect in the murder of Farajollah Shushtari, while the other eight were arrested over their alleged involvement in the case.
Farajollah Shushtari, the son of IRGC Major General Noorali Shushtari, was killed during the protests on January 9 in the Ahmadabad district of Mashhad.
Law enforcement officials claim the detainees were involved in the killing and are now being held by the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
However, no details have been released about the identities of the detainees, the circumstances of their arrests, or where they are being held.
State media had previously reported the arrest of several other citizens in Mashhad in connection with the same case. However, those reports also did not provide details about the number of people arrested, their identities, or the judicial process.
