The Nursing Organization of Iran issued a statement declaring that, despite authorities offering “Pro Internet” access to its members during the ongoing wartime internet restrictions, the organization will not request special privileges for its members until public access to the international internet is fully restored.
“Pro Internet” is the term used by the Islamic Republic to describe class-based internet access granted to specific groups, similar to the previous initiative for journalists known as the “White SIM Card.” The internet blackout, which began during the 40-day war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, has now entered its ninth week. According to NetBlocks, this duration is unprecedented in the history of Iran and the world.
Previously, the spokesperson for Masoud Pezeshkian’s government had announced that “Pro Internet” would be provided to anyone who propagates the Islamic Republic’s narrative. Shortly thereafter, the government sent SMS notifications to specific professions, including lawyers, nurses, export-import companies, researchers, and university professors, inviting them to register for this class-based internet access.
