Axios reported on Monday, April 27, citing an American official and informed sources, that there is no consensus within the ruling structure of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding how to respond to U.S. demands concerning its nuclear program.
According to the report, one source familiar with the matter told Axios that Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, conveyed this issue to intermediary parties during his travels to mediating countries over the past two days. The source stated that Araghchi informed the mediators that there are disagreements within the Iranian government over how to address U.S. demands.
The Axios report states that American demands include a long-term suspension of uranium enrichment, as well as the transfer of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles outside the country, a matter that, according to sources, has become one of the primary points of contention in the negotiations. Previously, reports had been published regarding deep and serious rifts and disagreements between leaders of the Revolutionary Guards and the government’s negotiating team over reaching an agreement and accepting U.S. conditions versus continuing the war.
