A pro-government gathering in Tehran signals a push to consolidate support around Mojtaba Khamenei amid uncertainty at the top.

Domestic news agencies in Iran have reported that a large gathering titled “Imam Reza’s Iran in Allegiance to Mojtaba Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Republic,” will be held in Tehran on Wednesday, April 29. According to these reports, the event, which is also billed as the fifth annual gathering of the “Imam Reza’s Followers,” is scheduled to take place along the route from Imam Hossein Square to Azadi Square. The gathering is expected to be attended by cultural and social activists, jihadist groups, religious delegations, and volunteer religious service stalls.

The released announcements state that the event’s programming will begin at 4:00 PM with the setup of cultural, social, and service-oriented stalls, continuing until 9:00 PM with evening assemblies. Domestic news agencies have also reported that the ceremony is being held with the goal of declaring support and “allegiance” to “Mojtaba Khamenei,” the Leader of the Islamic Republic, with organizers anticipating widespread participation from grassroots organizations.

This gathering for supporters of the regime to pledge allegiance to Mojtaba Khamenei is taking place while the body of Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the first seconds of the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran on February 28, has not yet been buried. Furthermore, Iranian media outlets have yet to publish any images or audio of Mojtaba Khamenei.
