Government Spokesperson: Internet Will Return Once Conditions Normalize

As Iranian users have been deprived of their right to internet access for sixty days, Government Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated: “We are currently in a state of crisis; these conditions are temporary, and as soon as the competent authorities declare an end to the crisis, internet status will return to normal.” She also emphasized that “Internet Pro” is based on a resolution by the Supreme National Security Council.

Internet Pro is a segment of “tiered internet” that has been provided by Iranian operators over the past weeks to certain social groups to create a higher level of access to the international internet.

Despite this, Fatemeh Mohajerani claimed: “We do not believe in discrimination regarding internet access, but it must be explained that Internet Pro was defined with the aim of ensuring business continuity during crisis conditions.”

Simultaneously, NetBlocks, the independent internet access monitoring organization, reported that despite the Islamic Republic’s efforts to create tiered access for privileged groups, the internet blackout in Iran has surpassed 1,416 hours.
