Kuwaiti officials announced that following a missile and drone attack by the Islamic Republic on Kuwait International Airport, the Terminal 1 building was hit, resulting in a temporary suspension of airport operations.
On Wednesday, June 3, Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation announced the activation of the airport’s emergency plan and the suspension of all flights. However, it did not provide further details about the extent of the damage sustained by the terminal.
Kuwaiti state media reported that, in addition to damaging the airport, the attack left several people injured and forced the cancellation or rerouting of many flights.
Hours later, the spokesperson for Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense described the Islamic Republic’s attack as a “criminal aggression,” saying the strike caused material damage to the airport building and resulted in some casualties.
Kuwait was among the targets of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ missile and drone attacks late Tuesday evening. Earlier, Kuwaiti officials and the United States Central Command had reported the interception of some of these attacks. Nevertheless, Kuwaiti authorities have not yet released precise figures on the number of casualties or the extent of the damage.
