Half of Iran's Population Faces Calorie Deficit as Inflation Soars

A new report by the Iranian parliament's Research Center reveals that half of the country's population consumed less than the recommended daily calorie intake of 2,100 last year. 

This shortfall is attributed to several factors including high food price inflation and shifting priorities.

Rising food prices have forced households to cut back on their food purchases.

Due to a bleak economic outlook, families have prioritized durable goods like housing over essential food items.

The report further highlights that the decline in calorie consumption affects all income levels in the country, but it is most severe for middle-income households.
