Donald Trump said a peace deal with the Islamic Republic was complete and ordered the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate removal of the US naval blockade of Iran.

"The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He added, "Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines."

The announcement followed word from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who served as the lead mediator, that the two sides had reached an agreement and declared an immediate, permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

Sharif said an official signing ceremony would be held Friday, June 19, in Switzerland, and thanked Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey for their roles.

He said mediators would hold a series of pre-implementation meetings this week to prepare for technical talks.

The war began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a air campaign against Iran that killed the Islamic Republi's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and much of his inner circle.

His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, succeeded him but has not appeared in public.
