Alireza Peighambari: January Protester Transferred to Ghezel Hesar; Fears of Execution

Alireza Peighambari, a 26-year-old political prisoner detained during the nationwide protests in January 2026, was transferred today from Greater Tehran Prison to Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

The Follow-up Committee announced that the transfer took place even though his death sentence, previously issued by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on the charge of Moharebeh, or “enmity against God,” is currently under review by the Supreme Court.

Alireza Peighambari was initially arrested by security forces on January 9, 2026, and was later released on bail. However, following his second court hearing in late May of this year, he was re-arrested and transferred to Greater Tehran Prison.

According to published information, his first court session was held in April at Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. An informed source previously told HRANA that Peighambari had not actively participated in the protests and was inadvertently swept up and arrested in the crowd after leaving his workplace.

Highlighting his relocation to Ghezel Hesar Prison, the Follow-up Committee warned of escalating concerns regarding his situation and the heightened risk of his death sentence being carried out.

This development comes amid recent human rights reports documenting a surge in executions across Iran, alongside an accelerating pace in both the issuance and implementation of death sentences, a trend that continues to raise deep concerns among civil society and human rights organizations.
