Afghan Refugee Camp in Semnan

This Afghan refugee camp is situated in the suburbs of Semnan in north central Iran, about 20 kilometers southeast of the city. Given the name “Mehmanshar (“Guest City”) for Afghan Refugees, it provides shelter to about 300 families, and up to 4000 people in total. It was set up in 2007 with funding from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and its Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants Affairs.
