An exhibition at Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art celebrates the work of one of Iran’s most prolific painters, Ali Akbar Sadeghi. Born in 1937, Sadeghi rose to prominence during the country’s surrealist movement in the 1970s. His work is influenced by the traditional Iranian portraiture of the Qajar era, as well as Coffee House painting, which draws on Persian traditional narratives, including Ferdowsi’s famous epic poem the Shahnameh and religious plays. The exhibition, which will show over 200 of Sadeghi’s artworks, opened on January 28 and runs until April 4.
