Maharloo Lake, located in Fars province, 25 kilometers south of Shiraz, is an important source of edible and industrial salt. In the summer, when the water of the lake evaporates and tends to become even saltier, a unique algae turns the lake's color from red to pink, and is very popular with tourists.
