Sistan's Abandoned Villages

For the past 50 years, natural disasters from floods to draughts to sandstorms have ravaged some of the villages of Sistan in southeast Iran. Over time, residents have left their ancestral homes and migrated to urban areas and other provinces. These remarkable photographs are drawn from a collection by Hamed Gholami Dovom from abandoned villages in the province.
