Iranian Paramilitary Member Killed in Tabriz

A member of Iran's paramilitary Basij force succumbed to injuries he sustained in an attack in the north-western city of Tabriz last week, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on July 17. 

According to the Ashura Corps of East Azerbaijan province, Amir Hosseinpour was attacked while patrolling Tabriz  on July 11 and succumbed to his injuries four days later.

It did not give any details about the identity or motive of the assailant.

IRGC-affiliated media released a picture of Hosseinpour dressed in a military uniform. He was 27 years old. 

Hosseinpour was an active member of the Razavion Patrol, a unit under the command of the  Basij force. 

The unit operates in coordination with the IRGC, the judiciary and the police force. 

Critics have said that its primary role is to exert control to suppress protests in Iranian cities' neighborhoods.
