US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in Washington on Thursday, June 4, and condemned Iran's "heinous" incursions on Kuwait's airport.
In the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, the Islamic Republic carried out drone and missile attacks against Kuwait's airport, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to dozens of others.
According to a statement from the United States Department of State, during his meeting with the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister in Washington, Rubio condemned the "heinous and unacceptable attacks by Iran that targeted Kuwait International Airport and other locations in the country" and expressed his condolences for those killed and injured in the attack.
Kuwaiti officials said the Islamic Republic launched 30 ballistic missiles and drones in the attack. The sole fatality was an Indian citizen, and 63 people were wounded.
Iran did not accept responsibility for the drone strike on the civilian Kuwaiti airport, claiming instead that a US Patriot air defense missile caused the incident. This claim was rejected by CENTCOM, the United States Central Command.
Simultaneously with efforts to reach a meaningful agreement between officials in Tehran and Washington, both sides have repeatedly engaged in military actions termed "defensive" in the southern regions of Iran and neighboring countries. Nevertheless, Donald Trump said the ceasefire has not been violated and peace negotiations are still ongoing.
