At least 292 protesters and civil activists have been arrested across Iran in the past 50 days, according to a human rights website, as the government seeks to prevent renewed demonstrations on the September 16 anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death.
HRANA said on September 15 that the government has used a variety of methods to crack down on dissent, including exerting pressure on students, educational institutions, artists and the families of those who lost their loved ones during monthslong protests sparked by Amini’s death.
The report said that 44 relatives of those killed have been arrested, summoned, or imposed travel restrictions by government agencies.
The report comes as many cities in Iran have witnessed heightened security measures ahead of the anniversary of Amini's death in police custody.
