Iranian authorities are exerting increased pressure on university students following nationwide protests that erupted in September last year.

The United Students Telegram channel reported that a large group of students were barred from entering the campus of Tehran’s Al-Zahra University this week, without justification. 

Legal expert Mohsen Borhani highlighted that most disciplinary actions launched against students are based on guidelines ratified by the minister of science, something he deemed “legally questionable."

"Despite numerous petitions submitted in recent months to challenge these illicit regulations, the matter has yet to be addressed by the General Board of the Administrative Court of Justice," Borhani wrote on the social media platform X. 

Noshirvani University, in the Caspian city of Babol, has seen escalating confrontations between students and the authorities. 

Students have resisted unwarranted intrusions into their affairs such as attempts to confiscate student identification cards or to impose dress code restrictions. 

Those who have stood up against these actions have faced threats and physical violence.

Meanwhile, the disciplinary committee of Tehran University’s Faculty of Art has initiated disciplinary proceedings against a postgraduate student who had previously been "banned from entry" into the university. 

Mohammad Javad Tavazonizadeh announced on his Instagram page that he was summoned by the disciplinary committee to face new accusations.

In a further development, an urban planning engineering student at Hamedan Azad University has been sentenced to six months in prison on the charge of "propaganda activities against the system."
