Four Kurdish teachers' union activists from the Kurdish town of Marivan have been sentenced to a total of 16 months in prison.
Tahsin Mustafa, Sivan Soleimani, Aram Ghaderi, and Aram Mohammadi each received four-month prison sentences.
The verdict was handed down by the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Marivan, under the presidency of Judge Ehsan Rouhi Chianeh, according to Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
The four educators were charged with "propaganda against the government," a common accusation used against activists in Iran.
Their advocacy for these constitutional rights, particularly education in Kurdish, their native language, appears to have been a factor in their prosecution.
The prison sentences for all four teachers have been suspended for a minimum of two years.
This suspension means that the convicted individuals will not immediately serve their sentences but must adhere to certain conditions to avoid imprisonment.
