The Islamic Republic's security forces have arrested the father of a protester killed during the 2022 protests and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
Ahmad Hassanzadeh, father of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, was arrested by agents of the Intelligence Department on Sunday in the Kurdish town of Bukan.
No detailed information has been provided regarding the reasons for Ahmad Hassanzadeh's arrest, the charges against him, or his current whereabouts.
Ahmad Hassanzadeh was previously arrested on July 3 with his daughter. They were released the following day on bail.
His son, Mohammad Hassanzadeh, was killed on November 16, 2022, during protests in Bukan. He was both stabbed and shot in the chest and heart by security forces as he attempted to rescue a girl being abducted by government agents.
The 2022 protests in Iran, also known as the Mahsa Amini protests or the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, were sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody on September 16, 2022. Amini had been arrested by Iran's morality police for allegedly wearing her hijab improperly.
Her death ignited widespread demonstrations across Iran, with protesters demanding increased women's rights, political freedoms, and challenging the Islamic Republic's rule. The government's response to these protests was marked by severe crackdowns, resulting in hundreds of deaths, injuries, and arrests.
