Environmental activist Arman Shadivand was flogged with 30 lashes on Tuesday for “insulting” Iran’s former president, Ebrahim Raisi.
The sentence was issued by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court in the western Darreh Shahr district on March 17.
Shadivand was acquitted of a separate charge of insulting Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in the same case.
He also faces a two-year prison under a separate sentence handed down by the Revolutionary Court of Ilam in February. That sentence was upheld by an appeals court in May.
Shadivand was initially arrested in November last year after being summoned by prosecutors in Darreh Shahr. He was released on bail one day later from Mahpareh Prison.
