Tehran’s prosecutor has filed criminal charges against former parliament member Mostafa Kavakebian after he claimed that a French journalist had sexual relations with 120 senior Iranian officials.
Kavakebian made the allegations on Thursday during a television program about Catherine Perez-Shakdam, who had access to Iranian officials.
The prosecutor’s office said on Friday that Kavakebian’s statements were “unsupported claims” that constitute “disturbing public opinion.”
Officials said they had summoned Kavakebian to provide evidence, but he has not presented any documentation.
Kavakebian claimed Perez-Shakdam “attended Quran reading sessions of officials and managed to establish contact with 120 key figures of the Islamic Republic.”
Perez-Shakdam worked in Iran for about a decade, interviewed former President Ebrahim Raisi, and published articles in official Iranian media, including the Supreme Leader’s website.
Kavakebian said, “They have reduced the discussion about infiltrators to Afghan migrants, while the infiltration issue happened at the highest levels of the system.”
He added, “Catherine Shakdam even attended Quran reading sessions of officials and managed to establish contact with 120 key figures of the Islamic Republic.”
