Iranian media reported on Thursday afternoon that residents in western Tehran and southern Karaj felt earthquake tremors, but neither Tehran University's geophysics website nor the U.S. Geological Survey recorded any seismic activity.
No official has commented on the reports, but several social media users said they felt ground shaking in areas of western Tehran, including Shahriar, Qods and Andisheh.
According to reports, the tremors were felt at 2:35 p.m. on Thursday at several locations in western Tehran and southern Karaj.
The discrepancy between public reports and official seismic monitoring has raised questions about the nature of the reported ground movement.
