The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence agents shot and arrested a Kurdish civil activist on Wednesday after wounding him with three bullets to the legs, a human rights group reported.
Hoshyar Shabani, 31, was transferred to an undisclosed location after being shot in the Kani Sur area of Baneh while in his vehicle, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
The severity of Shabani’s injuries has raised concerns about his health in detention, the group said.
The IRGC intelligence forces had made at least two unsuccessful attempts to arrest the former political prisoner within the past month.
Shabani was previously arrested and prosecuted in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022 for civil activities, including participation in campaigns supporting kolbars - cross-border porters - and labor strikes.
He received prison sentences in two cases.
