Four people were killed in clashes between armed individuals and security forces at a checkpoint in southeastern Iran, the Revolutionary Guards announced on Tuesday.
Three police officers and one civilian died in the incident in Fahraj, Kerman province, according to a statement from the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards’ Ground Forces.
The statement said security and police agencies were investigating the incident.
The human rights website Haalvsh reported earlier that the clash occurred early Tuesday morning at a checkpoint in Fahraj, saying two Ministry of Intelligence officers and two police officers were killed.
The website said several other officers were wounded and published a video purportedly showing the transfer of wounded personnel and bodies.
Iranian authorities did not immediately confirm those details or provide information about the circumstances of the clash.
Haalvsh also reported a separate incident on Tuesday in Iranshahr, in Sistan and Baluchestan province, where armed individuals allegedly targeted three military vehicles.
The website said military forces blocked roads and turned back vehicles heading toward Zahedan, though officials have not confirmed that account.
Sistan and Baluchestan province, particularly border areas near Iranshahr and Khash, has experienced years of armed clashes between security forces and militant groups, including Jaish al-Adl, an insurgent group.
