Tensions surge in the Strait of Hormuz as Iran warns of retaliation against U.S. military presence.

Following the commencement of the U.S. military’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the Public Relations Office of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that any approach by military vessels to the Strait will be considered a “ceasefire violation” and will be met with a “harsh response.”

The IRGC simultaneously stated that the passage of civilian vessels remains uninterrupted, provided they “comply with regulations.”

In the official statement released on April 12, the IRGC claimed that, contrary to the “false allegations of certain enemy officials,” the Strait of Hormuz is under “intelligent control and management” and remains open for the innocent passage of civilian ships.

The IRGC emphasized that any presence or approach by military vessels in this region, regardless of their designation or pretext, will be interpreted as a breach of the ceasefire.

This stance comes hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. Navy has begun the process of a naval blockade of the Strait.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump stressed that the objective of this action is to prevent “Iran from generating revenue from the passage of ships,” comparing the policy to past U.S. actions against Venezuela, but “at a higher level.” The U.S. President also announced that he has ordered the Navy to intercept any vessels in international waters that have paid tolls to Iran.
