1,224 Hours of Internet Blackout in Iran

NetBlocks, an independent organization that monitors internet connectivity, has said that the internet blackout in Iran has now lasted more than 1,224 hours.

In a post on the "X" platform, the organization wrote: "The internet blackout in Iran has entered its 52nd day, reaching a total duration of 1,224 hours. According to the data, the general public remains deprived of access to international networks, while authorities continue their efforts to segment users and provide selective access to favored groups."

Since the start of the conflict between the U.S./Israel and the Islamic Republic, people in Iran have been completely cut off from free information and internet access, with only a limited group of officials and individuals close to the regime allowed to go online. The blackout has continued even after the ceasefire between the United States and the Islamic Republic was announced.

Earlier, the spokesperson for the Islamic Republic’s government had officially said that "white SIM cards" would be issued to those "capable of conveying the people's voice."

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister during the war with the U.S. and Israel, said in interviews with international media that the internet shutdown in Iran was only meant to "protect the people during wartime" and had no other purpose. However, the blackout has remained in place even after the war ended and during the ceasefire.
