The Pentagon, the U.S. Department of Defense, announced that its military forces boarded a sanctioned ship named the "M/T Tiffany" in the waters of South Asia on Monday night without incident.
The Pentagon's statement reads: "We will continue to pursue global efforts to enforce maritime law, disrupt illicit networks, and interdict sanctioned vessels that provide material support to Iran, wherever they may be. International waters are not a safe haven for sanctioned ships. The Department of Defense will continue to deny freedom of maneuver to illicit actors and their vessels."
Along with the statement, the U.S. Department of Defense released footage showing military helicopters flying over the tanker and troops conducting a heliborne boarding operation. This is the second ship the United States has seized and taken control of since imposing a naval blockade on Iran.
This development follows an announcement made hours earlier by the Public Relations Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army, which claimed that despite numerous "warnings and threats" from a U.S. Navy carrier strike group, the Iranian tanker "Sili City" successfully entered Iranian territorial waters last night after crossing the Arabian Sea. According to this report, widely covered by domestic news agencies, the operation was carried out with "operational support" from the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy.
The report indicates that the tanker is currently "stationed at one of the anchorages of Iran's southern ports." The army's statement did not specify the name of the port.
